个人简介:

        林学民,华东师范大学软件学院“千人计划”特聘教授,新南威尔士大学计算机科学及工程学院教授、数据库研究实验室主任。林学民教授长期从事数据库理论、算法与技术研究,在时空数据和流数据的查询、图和文本的匹配查询、不确定数据的概化查询及图数据可视化等方面做出了一系列有影响力的研究。林学民教授目前是ACM Transactions on Database Systems (TODS,国际数据库领域旗舰期刊) 的编委,并多次应邀担任SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, KDD 等权威会议的程序委员。近年来在数据库等相关领域的顶级国际学术会议(SIGMOD,VLDB,KDD,ICDE, SIGIR)与国际顶级期刊(ACM TODS,VLDB J,IEEE TKDE,Algorithmica等)上共发表了70余篇学术论文。林学民教授累计在数据库领域重要的国际学术会议和国际学术期刊发表并录用了180 余篇论文,其中 12 篇国际会议优秀论文。他在关键字查询方面的科研成果分别获得了国际顶级会议ICDE’07上的优秀学生论文奖(Best Student Award)和被列为国际顶级刊物IEEE TKDE 2011年12月份的Spotlight Paper;在时空数据实时连续监控查询方面的科研成果被分别评为国际顶级会议ICDE’10和ICED’12上的优秀论文(One of the Best Papers);在文本数据质量管理方面的科研成果被评为国际顶级会议SIGMOD’11 上的优秀论文(One of the Best Papers)。他从2009年起担任华东师范大学软件学院的客座教授,于2010年入选国家第四批“千人计划”。

        Publishing in majors is tough and the best way to promote your research results. In this talk, I will share with students my experiences in publishing in majors. This includes selecting topics, developing techniques, conducting experiments, writing papers, etc.

个人简介:

        Dr Jeffrey Xu Yu is a Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  His current main research interests include graph mining, graph query processing, graph pattern matching, and keywords search in relational databases. Dr. Yu served as an Information Director and a member in ACM SIGMOD executive committee (2007-2011), and an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (2004-2008). Currently he servers as an associate editor in VLDB Journal, WWW Journal, and the International Journal of Cooperative Information Systems.  Dr. Yu served/serves in over 270 organization committees and program committees in international conferences/workshops including PC Co-chair of APWeb'04, WAIM'06, APWeb/WAIM'07, WISE'09, PAKDD'10, DASFAA'11, and ICDM'12.  He has published over 260 papers including papers published in reputed journals and major international conferences such as TODS, VLDBJ, TKDD, TOIS, TKDE, SIGMOD, SIGKDD, VLDB, ICDE, ICDM, SDM, CIKM, and EDBT.

 

报告摘要:

        Diversity is an important factor in mining and query processing. In this talk, we discuss the diversity issue in mining and query processing. First, we discuss how to handle diversity in ranking nodes on graphs, which is a fundamental task in information retrieval, data mining, and social network analysis. It has a large number of applications such as ranking web-pages measuring centrality in social networks, as well as enhancing personalized services for web search. Most of existing graph-based ranking algorithms are based on the stationary distribution of the random walk on graphs, such as the PageRank algorithm and its variants. The idea of this random walk based ranking algorithms is that the node of a graph should be ranked higher if there are more high-ranking nodes link to it. This basic idea has become a crucial criteria for designing ranking algorithms on graphs and also has been successfully applied in many applications. However, the design criteria lead to many nodes found in the top-K ranking list are similar because it only considers the relevance of the nodes. It reduces the ranking effectiveness when the applications need to incorporate diversity into the top-K ranking results. Second, we discuss how to handle diversity in top-k query processing, which finds a list of k results that have largest scores w.r.t the user given query. We discuss a general framework such that most existing solutions for top-k query processing can be extended easily to handle diversified top-k search.

陆嘉恒,中国人民大学

个人简介:

        陆嘉恒,中国人民大学副教授。2006年在新加坡国立大学获博士学位。2006至2008年在美国加利福尼亚大学尔湾分校进行博士后研究。主要研究领域包括数据库和信息检索技术。发表论文四十多篇,SIGMOD,VLDB等顶级会议论文十多篇,主编教材《分布式系统与云计算》,《hadoop 实战》等。

 

报告摘要:

    数据库技术的研究属于计算机科学的一个分支,与其他分支一样,我们也需要算法,复杂度分析和广泛的实验结果。但是数据库的研究更加侧重于对于大规模数据的处理的性能分析和改性。所以数据库的研究与其它计算机科学相比既有共性,也有特性。本次报告针对数据库领域的研究特色和论文写作技术与大家进行分享和交流。

李国良,清华大学

个人简介:

        李国良,讲师,2009年至今在清华大学计算机科学与技术系工作。主要研究方向包括:海量数据清洗和集成、空间数据管理、众包环境下数据管理。2009年于清华大学计算机科学与技术系获博士学位,2004年于哈尔滨工业大学计算机科学与技术系获学士学位。在国际会议ACM SIGMOD、VLDB、IEEE ICDE、WWW、ACM SIGIR和国际期刊VLDB Journal、IEEE TKDE、DMKD、Bioinformatics上发表论文30余篇,论文被引用800余次。2010年获得北京市优秀博士论文奖。2011年获得全国优秀博士学位论文提名奖。2011年获得“SCOPUS青年科学之星”奖。个人主页: http://dbgroup.cs.tsinghua.edu.cn/ligl

        做科研类似于玩电子游戏,最需要的就是兴趣和投入。如果能够像玩电子游戏一样投入到科研,那么一定能做好研究。本报告将从数据库领域来探讨如何做好研究 - 从科研入门、科研创新、融会贯通等三个层次来介绍如何最好科研。本报告还讨论如何撰写高质量论文以及如何做好会议报告。
